The Quit Smoking Programme

The main problem for smokers is that they consciously know all the reasons for giving up smoking, but something keeps telling them that smoking is ok. This happens because the smoking habit doesn’t actually exist within the conscious mind, it exists within the subconscious.

The subconscious part of the mind had been programmed at the first experience of smoking and has not changed at all since then. That first experience was probably during the teenage years, when smoking was a means of keeping in with the group, (interacting with the group in what appeared to be a positive way), and being “grown up.”

The subconscious will keep sending powerful propagandist messages to the conscious mind, about how “smoking is good for stress”, “helps you to cope”, etc. However, the subconscious has got things very wrong. Smoking is actually one of the biggest causes of stress and depression; this happens because the subconscious is not the intellectual mind and cannot be innovative. It always has to refer back to previous behaviour patterns, but at the same time is very powerful indeed!

By using hypnosis we can re-educate the subconscious part of the mind about smoking, highlighting its health risks, anti-social nature, cost and the effects it is having generally on the individual’s life. Once both the unconscious and conscious parts of the mind are in agreement, a person finds it easier to give up smoking.

I only see people once for smoking, and that session includes:

  • 1. An initial consultation to see if there might be an anxiety link to the habit.
  • 2. Suggestions to quit the habit, suggestions for increased self esteem, confidence and stress release.
  • 3. A post hypnotic suggestion for use if they are tempted to smoke, by others.
